Transcript:Boiled Edamame With Chinese 5 Spice
Today we're going to learn how to make boiled edamame. And were going to season it with Chinese 5 spice which we are going to make from scratch.Edamame Ingredients
And here are our ingredients:- 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 3 whole cloves
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 5 star anise
- 1 1/2 teaspoons fennel seed
- 1 1/2 teaspoons whole black peppercorn
- 4 cups or 1 quart of edamame pods (if you didn't know these are the same thing as soybeans)
Make the Edamame Spice Mix
Now for the five spice what we are going to do is take all of the spices, put them right into the spice grinder. Just shake the spice grinder around. We are going to grind it for about a minute or so, or until he gets finely ground. Okay, let's see here, you see it's finally ground.Cook the Edamame
We're going to say this on the side for later. Okay here we have a pot of boiling water, the water is salted. Salt the water until it tastes like the ocean. We're going to add in the edamame. Cover them. We're going to let them cook for two minutes. So, two minutes later, and we have our edamame. We're going to add in the salt. Now we're going to add two nice big pinches of this 5 spice.
