Transcript:Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal

Hi I'm Rachel Edelman for About.com Food. Today I'm going to show you how to make apple cinnamon oatmeal from scratch.

Turn on the stove to medium high heat.

Prepare the Apple

Wash one apple. Peel the apple and remove the core. Now chop up the apple. I like big chunks of apples, but you can chop them as small as you like.

Add Oatmeal Ingredients to Saucepan

Put the apple pieces in a saucepan. Add 1 cup of water and 1 1/4 cup of apple juice. If you'd like a thicker oatmeal, use less water and juice. Bring the mixture to a boil. Stir in 2/3 of a cup of rolled oats and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.

Let the Oatmeal Thicken

Return everything to a boil and then reduce the heat and simmer until the oatmeal is thick – this should take about 5 minutes. Next remove the pan from the heat and cover it for another 2-3 minutes. For some different flavors, add maple syrup, raisins, peanut butter or walnuts. Pour into a bowl and serve.
