Transcript:Shrimp and BroccoliHi, I’m Roblé for about.com. Today I’m going to show you how to make A low-carb shrimp and broccoli. Asian style. Here we go.
Ingredients for Shrimp and BroccoliHere are our ingredients.
- 12 large shrimp ( peeled and de-veined)
- 1 1/2 cups broccoli florets
- 1 tablespoon of ginger/garlic paste
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
Cook the Broccoli in Boiling WaterSo here we have a pot of boiling water. It is unsalted. Take your broccoli and drop it right into the boiling water. Stir it around a little bit. We are going to cook this for 30 seconds. No more than 30 seconds. 30 seconds later we are going to take our broccoli out and drop it directly into ice water. The ice water will shock the broccoli, rapidly cool it. Also, it will help to keep the bright green color. After about two minutes your broccoli will cool. Take it out on the ice water and put it into a bowl on the side. You will need it soon.
Saute the ShrimpSo, here we have a hot saute pan over medium-high heat. If you have a wok, you can use that as well. we are going to add in the vegetable oil and mix it around a little bit. Now I’m going to add in the shrimp. Let them cook for about 30 seconds or so on each side. So, 30 seconds later I’m going to flip all of the shrimp and let them cook for another 30 seconds. It’s 30 seconds later and we are going to pull them all out of the pan.
Mix Ingredients with SaucesNow comes the fun part. We are going to add in the sesame oil and the ginger garlic paste. You want to mix it around a little bit. Watch for it to start browning. As soon as it starts browning like it is right now, we are going to add in the broccoli, the soy sauce and the shrimp. Continue to mix everything around. You can even give it a quick little toss. The pan is going to cool down a little bit. Let this go for about another minute and a half.
Serve and Enjoy Garlic Shrimp and BroccoliWe are just reheating the broccoli and then we are ready to serve. Let’s remove everything from the pan. You don’t want so much of the broth. This can feed two people or one very hungry person. So here is your low-carb shrimp and broccoli. I am going to pour a little bit of this broth right over the top of it. You are ready to rock ‘n roll.
