Transcript:How to Make a Low Carb Almond Flour Pie Crust
Hi, I'm Stephanie Gallagher for About.com, and today, we're making an almond flour pie crust from our Low Carb Diet site.
Ingredients for the Low Carb Almond Flour Pie Crust
For this recipe, you will need:
- 3 Tbsp. butter
- 1-1/2 cups almond meal or almond flour -- and they're really the same thing, just finely-ground almonds
- artificial sweetener equal to 3 Tbsp. sugar
Prep the Low Carb Almond Flour Pie Crust
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Place the butter in a 9-inch pie pan. If you have an 8-inch pan, you can use that -- your crust will just be a bit thicker. Now place the butter in the oven to melt. It'll take about 3-5 minutes. Add the almond flour and artificial sweetener to the butter in the pie pan, and just mix it with your fork. You want to coat the almonds with the butter, but you don't want them to be soggy. You're looking for a wettish crushed crumb texture.
When the almonds are mixed well, spread the crust evenly in the pie plate with your fork. Just pull the crumbs gently up the sides of the pie pan with your fork. This helps distribute the crust evenly. Now use the back of a flat measuring cup to press the crumbs down firmly.
Bake the Low Carb Almond Flour Pie Crust
Bake the crust for 10 minutes, or until it just begins to brown. Check it at 8 minutes, because it can go from golden brown to burned quickly. Here's the almond flour pie crust. And you use it to make anything from a sugar-free fruit pie to a sugar-free chocolate pudding tart.
