Hi I'm Rachel Edelman for About.com Food. Today I'm going to show you how to make a mandarin orange beef dish.
To Make Mandarin Orange Beef You'll Need:
- 8 oz. mandarin oranges
- orange zest and freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1 tsp. cornstarch
- 1-2 tbsp. olive oil
- 1 bunch cut broccoli
- 1 sliced red bell pepper
- 1 lb thinly sliced steak
- 3 scallions, thinly sliced diagonal
- 2 tsp. minced garlic
- 2 tsp Teriyaki sauce
Combine Orange Ingredients
First pour the juice from the can of mandarin oranges into medium bowl, hold onto the oranges for later. Next, add the orange zest and the orange juice into the bowl too. Then, take 1 tbs of juice and combine it with the cornstarch in small bowl. Stir and set aside.
Cook the Steak
Now, in large skillet, heat the half of the oil over medium heat. Add the steak and saute for 2-3 min. When it's no longer pink, drain the fat and set the meat aside. Add some more oil to the pan and add the broccoli and the red pepper. Saute the vegetables for 3 min.
Season the Steak with the Orange Juices
Next pour on the cooked meat and pour over the orange juices. Heat everything through. Add the garlic and the cornstarch mixture. Bring it to a simmer. Next add scallions, I like to just cut in right in the pot withe some kitchen shears.
Then pour on the Teriyaki sauce. Toss everything together. Move the food to a platter and top with the Mandarin oranges. Serve over noodles, rice, or just on its own. Enjoy.
