Hi, I'm Linda Tagliaferro for About.com. The Long Island Children's Museum, located in Garden City, New York, is close to the famed Nassau Coliseum. First opened in 1993, the museum has been in its present location since 2002.The 40,000 square foot, multi-level museum features exciting hands-on explorations in 14 different exhibit galleries where kids can run, jump, wiggle, squirm and laugh while they learn important lessons about art, science, the world around them, and much more.
LI Children's Museum Bubble Gallery
In their ever-popular bubbles gallery, the museum offers a wealth of rainbow-colored, floating bubble creations. Kids take a hands-on approach to making large and small iridescent bubbles. Children can even stand in the middle of a giant bubble in this exciting gallery! From the youngest toddlers to older kids –and even parents-- this gallery is filled with enchantment for all ages.Climb-It At LICM
Don't know what to do with the kids when it's cold or raining outside? Bring them here and your kids can work off some of that irrepressible energy by walking, climbing and sliding through the museum's Climb It at LICM. Music Gallery at Long Island Children's Museum
The music gallery introduces children to a world of different instruments that make sounds both soft and booming. From drums to xylophones and a music machine that plays songs when children rearrange wooden balls on a hand-cranked conveyor belt, this exhibit delights children and teaches them the joy of making rhythmic sounds.Workshops at LICM
In addition to its permanent gallery exhibits, the Long Island Children's Museum offers frequent workshops where kids can create colorful arts and crafts without mom and dad worrying about paint getting smeared on the walls and furniture at home.In addition to the main exhibit galleries, the Long Island Children's Museum also features a 145-seat theater with regularly scheduled child-friendly performances ranging from marionettes to live music.
