Hello, I'm JJ Burkart with About.com. Today I'm am going to show you how to remove underarm sweat stains.

Underarm Stain Removal Supplies

The materials you may need are:
  • a laundry detergent
  • ammonia
  • aspirin
  • baking soda
  • lemon juice
  • salt
  • white vinegar
  • hot or warm water
  • a cup
  • an old toothbrush
  • an old cloth
  • protective cleaning gloves
  • a spray bottle

Remove Recent Underarm Shirt Stains

This method works best for shirts that have recently been stained. For this first method the materials you will need are a cleaning bucket, laundry detergent, water, a spray bottle, and an old toothbrush.

First you are going to need to make the stain removing solution by mixing one part water to four parts laundry detergent in a bucket used for cleaning.

After you are finished combining the laundry detergent and water fill the spray bottle with the finished solution. Then, lightly spray the sweat stain with the spray bottle. Using the old toothbrush gently rub the sprayed area several times back and forth. Allow it to sit for a few minutes. When the few minutes is up launder your shirt as you normally would.

Method Two: Remove Underarm Shirt Stains

The materials you will need for method are fresh or concentrated lemon juice and table salt. First squeeze the lemon juice directly onto the stain until it becomes wet.

After that add about a spoonful of table salt to the wet area and rub it into the area until the stain lifts. When it has lifted allow for the stained area to dry (setting it into the sun to dry helps to enhance the lemon juice removing the stain). Then launder the shirt as you normally would.

Remove Older Underarm Shirt Stains

The materials you will need for method six are a cup of white vinegar, four cups of warm water, protective cleaning gloves, and a cleaning bucket. First combine the cup of white vinegar and four cups of warm water in the cleaning bucket. Then put on your protective cleaning gloves. After putting on your gloves dip the entire stained top into the vinegar/water solution and rub the stained area with your knuckles.

If the stain does not remove, then allow for the top to soak in the vinegar solution for a couple of hours. Then launder the shirt as you normally would. Also when you do get underarms stains make sure to clean them as soon as possible so they will be easier to remove.
