Transcript:How to Remove Smoke Odors From ClothingHi! I'm Debbie Anderson for About.com!
The smell of smoke can cling to your clothing when you're out in public places, and if you're looking for a quick and easy way to remove smoke odors from your clothing without having to wash them before going to your next location, then today I'm going to cover a quick and easy tips on ways you can remove or reduce those smoke odors from your clothing when you don't have time to wash your clothing first!
Hand Held Fabric Deodorizing SprayFor this first tip, travel size hand held fabric deodorizing sprays can come in handy when you need to freshen up in a hurry. To quickly remove the smell of smoke from the clothing, simply remove the jacket or articles of clothing that are resonating with smoke and gently spray a small mist of the travel size fabric deodorizing spray on the clothing. Allow the clothing to dry before putting the jacket or other clothing articles back on before going to your next location.
Hang Clothes by an Open WindowAlternatively, for tip number two, if you have a little extra time before going back to the office or your next location, one of the best ways to remove smoke odors from clothing is by removing the affected garments to spray them with fabric deodorizing spray and then hang the affected clothing garments on a hanger that is located near an open window or outside. Allow the fresh air from outside to breeze through your clothing for approximately 30 minutes so the fresh air can completely eliminate the smell of smoke from your clothing garments.
Fabric SoftenerFinally, for tip number three, if you haven't got time to undress, using fabric softener sheets to gently wipe down your clothing can help eliminate that smoke smell from your outfit because the fabric softener sheets will quickly absorb the smoke smell while leaving a fresh “new laundry” smell behind on the fabric. This tip is also generally safe for any clothing garments that are dry clean only as well.
The Wash CycleNow although some of these tips may only mask or only “mostly remove” the smell of smoke from your clothing, they are great tips for reducing and removing any offensive odors clinging to your clothing when you're “on the go”. However, when you have more time to remove smoke odors from your clothes, the best way to remove smoke odors from your clothes is by just putting them in the washer, adding a bit of laundry detergent, and allowing the smoke odors to be removed in a tub of water during the wash cycle!
And with these handful of tips on how to remove or reduce the smell of smoke odor from your clothing, you're sure to always be able to go to your next location feeling confident that you no longer smell like smoke.
