Hi, I'm Stephanie Gallagher for About.com, and today, I'll show you how to remove yellow underarm stains from colored shirts.

First, understand that underarm stains are caused by a reaction between the aluminum compounds in antiperspirants and the salts in your sweat. The stains typically build up over time, and you can prevent them by wearing an undershirt. You can also prevent them by switching to an aluminum-free deodorant or one that has a lower aluminum content.

It also helps to allow your deodorant to dry before dressing. To get the stains out, first check to make sure your shirt is washable. If the tag says dry clean only, don't try to wash it.
Solution for Removing Underarm Stains on Colored Shirts
Now mix up a solution of one part baking soda, one part peroxide and one part water. You'll need about 1/4 cup each. Place a thick white towel down to protect the counter. Now rub the solution on the stains and allow it to sit for at least 30 minutes. You can use an old toothbrush or soft bristle brush to loosen any residue from the stain. If you're working on a light colored shirt, test the solution in an inconspicuous place first before trying it under the arms.Wash as you normally would in warm or cold water.
