Hi, I'm Tina with About.com and today I'm here to give you some tips on cleaning your front load washing machine.
Cleaning your front load washing machine can be a challenge, but with these steps you can maintain your washer and eliminate any lingering odors. Because nobody likes their clothes coming out smelling worse than before they were washed.
Materials for Cleaning a Front Load Washing Machine
Here's what you'll need:
- 2 ½ cups of distilled vinegar
- ½ cup of water
- 2 small towels

Now, what you'll want to do is put 2 cups of distilled vinegar in where you're detergent goes and run a completely empty washer on a hot cycle. Once your cycle is finished you'll want to create a mixture of ½ cup distilled vinegar and ½ a cup of hot water. You'll want to take one of your towels and wet it in this mixture, being sure to wipe down the door seal, the gasket, and the door interior.
Once you're done with that, you'll take the other towel, wet it with water and wipe down the same gasket, door seal, and door interior to remove any vinegar residue and prevent deterioration.
Once you've completed all of those steps, be sure to run the hot cycle once again, empty, with no vinegar, no detergent, no clothes. This is to be sure that no vinegar residue is left inside of your washer.
After that, leave the door open for an hour or 2 to be sure to air it out. This will help with any unwanted odors.
