Transcript:Guide to Common Ragweed
Hi, I'm Paul Filice, President of Miner's ACE Hardware, here today on behalf of About.com to talk to you about ragweed.
What Does Ragweed Look Like and Where Does it Grow?
You can identify ragweed by its pale green color and purple underside. Ragweed occurs in the lower 48 states and will bloom in early spring. It will last all summer long until the frosts hit – frost is really the only natural enemy it has. It produces a ton of pollen; pollen that's found up to two miles in the air and will spread across two to three hundred miles.
How Do You Get Rid of Ragweed?
Because ragweed is a common weed, one of the best ways to remove it is by hand - pull it out, make sure it's gone. Then go ahead and plant over it or use ground covers, barks, or gravel to prevent it from coming back. To control ragweed, visit your local hardware store and consult an expert, where they have products like Round-up that can control it for extended periods of time. And that's a guide to common ragweed.
