Transcript:How to Make Beef Brisket

Hi, I'm Stephanie Gallagher, and today we're going to make brisket. Let's get started.

Ingredients for Beef Brisket

For this recipe, you'll need:
  • 2 large yellow onions
  • 1 3-4 lb. beef brisket, trimmed of excess fat
  • kosher salt and freshly-ground black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. onion powder - not onion salt
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup red wine
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

Place Sliced Onions and Brisket in Pan

Peel the onions and slice them. OK, spread the onion slices evenly in the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan. Lay the brisket on top of the onions.

Season the Brisket

Season the brisket with kosher salt and freshly-ground black pepper. Now season it with the onion powder. I'm just eyeballing it - the brisket police aren't going to come after me if I add a little extra onion powder.

Add Ketchup and Red Wine Mixture

Pour the ketchup and the red wine into a medium bowl, and whisk to combine. Pour the mixture over the brisket, making sure to coat it well.

Cover and Braise Brisket

Cover the brisket tightly with aluminum foil, and place on the center rack of the preheated oven to braise for 2-1/2 to 3 hours.

Serve and Enjoy Your Beef Brisket

When ready to serve, spoon the onion juices over the brisket, and let it rest 15 minutes before slicing against the grain. Look at that perfectly juicy and tender brisket.
