Hi, I'm Stephanie Gallagher for About.com, and today, we're making a brisket with steak sauce. Let's get started.

Brisket Steak Sauce and Onion Ingredients:

  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 3-4 lb. beef brisket, trimmed
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • 1 cup steak sauce
  • 1/2 cup red wine - sweet red wine works well with this recipe

Marinate and Bake the Brisket

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Scatter the onions over the bottom of a 9 x 13 baking dish. Lay the brisket on top. Sprinkle the onion powder over the brisket. Now spread the steak sauce on top of the onion powder. See how easy this recipe is? OK, now pour the wine over the steak sauce, and make sure the brisket is covered with the sauce completely.

Now cover the brisket with foil, and bake for 2 to 3 hrs. Check it at 2 hours. The brisket is ready when an instant thermometer reads 185 degrees F. Mine is about 190, and that's okay.

Slice Brisket Against the Grain

To slice the brisket, clear off the onions and sauce, so you can see the grain. See these lines - that's the grain. When cutting any meat, you want to slice against the grain - basically at a right angle. This grain is sort of going at a diagonal, so I'm slicing perpendicular to that. Now let's make our gravy. Spoon or pour all the onions and juices from the brisket into a blender, and puree until thick, then just pour over the brisket. And here's our brisket with steak sauce.
