Transcript:Bi Bim Bop Recipe

Hi! I'm Natasha Levitan for Food. Today I'm going to show you how to make Korean bi bim bop.

Bi Bim Bop Ingredients

For this recipe, you will need:
  • 1 pound beef steak
  • 3/4 c. sesame sauce
  • 1/2 pound bean sprouts
  • 10 ounces fresh spinach
  • 2 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vinegar
  • 1 radish
  • 2 cucumbers
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 c. rice wine

Make the Teriyaki Sauce

Combine half cup of soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar and rice wine, and a teaspoon of black pepper in a small bowl. Whisk them together

Prepare the Bi Bim Bop Beef

Put the beef in the freezer for about 1 hour to make it easier to slice. Slice into thin strips. Pour in your marinade and marinate the beef for at about 3 hours or overnight. Place a large skillet with a tablespoon of oil on medium heat. Fry the beef until it browns, about 2-5 minutes depending on the thickness of your cut.

Fry the Eggs

In the same pan fry your eggs about 5 minutes on one side. Then flip over and fry for 30 seconds on the other.

Prepare the Bi Bim Bop Vegetables

Chop off the stalks from the bunch of spinach. Peel your cucumbers, split them in half and de-seed them with a spoon. Using a mandolin or a knife julienne them into long strips. Peel the radish and also julienne it.

Cook the Vegetables

Boil a pot of water. Into the boiling water place your bean sprouts and wait until the water boils again, then remove them with a slotted spoon. Into the same water, drop your spinach leaves and cook them for 20 seconds. Place it into a bowl and rinse them with a cold water to stop the cooking process.

Marinate the Vegetables

In a small bowl, mix together vegetable sauce: 1/4 cup soy sauce, 1/2 cup sesame oil, 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon black pepper. Whisk everything together and pour half of the sauce into your bowl of sprouts, the second half into your bowl with spinach, and set it aside. Next, make a vinegar marinade by mixing together remaining sugar, salt, and vinegar. Pour some into your bowl of cucumber strips and some into radish strips.

Serve the Bi Bim Bop

On your plate arrange beef, sprouts, spinach, cucumber and radish on the plate. Top it off with fried egg and serve.
