Hi, I'm Stephanie Gallagher for About.com, and today, we're making ice cream cone cupcakes. Let's get started.

Ingredients for Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes

So the ingredients we'll need for these ice cream cone cupcakes are cake style flat bottomed ice cream cones, already-prepared cupcake batter. You can just use a cake mix and make it according to package directions, a muffin tin and aluminum foil.

Place Ice Cream Cones into Tin

We're going to take our muffin tin and put some foil on top of it. Just wrap the foil on top of the muffin tin, and take any sharp kitchen object. You can use a skewer, I'm using the bottom of an instant-read thermometer. Just poke holes where the muffins would go. It doesn't have to be exactly in the middle. This is just a way to stabilize the ice cream cone cupcakes while they're baking. Then, take the bottom of the cupcake and make a groove where the hole is. This is going to hold the cupcakes up so they don't tip over.

Fill the Cones with Batter

So now our ice cream cones are ready and it's time to fill them with batter. Just take a couple of tablespoons and put that into each ice cream cone. The main thing is to be sure not to overfill the ice cream cones because they'll bubble over and get batter over everything and not look pretty.

Once the ice cream cones are filled, just kind of tap on the muffin tray a little. This helps the batter sink down. And it'll help you see if some of the ice cream cones might need a little extra batter if it settles down. It'll also keep the ice cream cone cupcakes weighted properly, so they cook evenly.

Bake the Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes

Put them in a preheated 350 degree oven to bake for 20 to 30 minutes. I'm letting the ice cream cones cool. As they're cooling, I'm going to prick the bottoms with a fork. That will keep the ice cream cones from getting soggy by letting some of the steam escape.

Finish Off the Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes

Our cupcakes are completely cool now and it's time to put the ice cream finish on. So we take the cupcakes and some whipped cream and spray it on to make it look like soft serve ice cream. And if you want to get fancy, add a few sprinkles. And these are the finished ice cream cone cupcakes.
