Transcript:How to Make Vampire Cupcakes

Ingredients for Vampire Cupcakes

To make vampire cupcakes, you will need:
  • 12 white cupcakes
  • 1 can white frosting, not the whipped variety
  • 1 can cherry pie filling

Blend Cherry Pie Filling

The cherry pie filling's going to be the blood in our cupcakes, so we'll start by putting it in a food processor and blending it until the cherries are broken up. You could also use a mixer to do this step. When it's done, the filling will be mostly smooth, but it's okay if a few chunks remain.

Hollow Out Cupcakes

Next we need to hollow out the inside of the cupcakes. To do this, take a sharp knife and cut a hole in the top of the cupcake at an angle, removing a cone-shaped piece. Now cut the excess from the top of the cone.

Fill and Freeze Cupcakes

Put a big spoonful of the cherry pie filling in the center of the cupcake, and place the lid back on top and firmly press down. Repeat until all of the cupcakes are filled, then put them in the freezer for about 20 minutes so that the tops will stay firmly in place when we dip them.

Melt the Frosting

While the cupcakes are chilling, spoon the frosting into a microwave-safe bowl and microwave it until it's melted, stirring after every 10 seconds. When it's ready it should have the consistency of liquid glue.

Frost the Cupcakes

Take a cupcake and dip the top in the melted frosting, turning it to ensure it's evenly coated. Lift it from the frosting and hold it upside down, swirling it slightly to let the excess drip back into the bowl. Once it's stopped dripping, you can turn it right side up and set it aside, and repeat with the remaining cupcakes. Of course you can skip this method and just spread the frosting on with a knife, I just think this looks a little nicer.

Add Vampire "Bites" to the Cupcakes

To finish the cupcakes, we're going to give them little vampire "bites." Use a toothpick to make two holes in the top of the cupcake for the tooth marks. Then dip the toothpick in some cherry pie filling and drip a little bit down from the holes to represent blood.

Now you have spooky vampire bite cupcakes that ooze blood when you bite into them. These make a great Halloween party dessert, and they're perfect as a gift any time of year for the vampire lover in your life.
