Transcript:Easy Potty Training Clothes
Hi, my name is Monica Willis, I'm the owner of corduroy kid in Brooklyn, New York, and I'm here with about.com. And, today, we're going to talk about great kid's clothing options for when they're going to begin toilet training.Potty Training Support
Most children begin toilet training anywhere between the age of two and four, when they're ready. And it's really important that we help them as much as we can because it's such a big thing in their lives and it's also the beginning of their independence. So, we need to help them with their clothing because that's a really big deal for kids to be able to get on and off their clothing as easily and obviously as quickly as possible.Keep Potty Training Pants Simple
I think one of the most important things is to have really loose-fitting, obviously elastic wasted pants so kids can just pull them on and off. Very easy, very loose, very snappy.Another great thing for boys as well, often, is pants that have just Velcro opening. This is another one that's really great and it's easy for kids to get on and off, but they have a little more style - some kids are a little fussy about what they'll wear.
What to Avoid in Potty Training Clothes
I think it's really important to remember to avoid buttons, buckles, zippers, anything that's really hard for a child in a hurry to try to do and undo. These pants for example have a button which is going to be really difficult in a hurry for a child to do and undo. Also, um, you know snaps are sort of great – you know a lot of pants now have snap openings for kids and these are great. These are something that's pretty easy for something for kids to do and undo depending on their ambidextrous skills and how old they are. So, that's something you need to gage. They can work or they can't work.Easy Potty Training Pants for Girls
For the girls, I think the easiest thing for the girls is leggings, they love them, and they look great. They've got elastic. They're really easy to pull on and off. Another good thing, um, for the girls for the summer is shorts, it's the same thing, they have elastic waists, they can easily be pulled on and off.Potty Training Skirts
Something for girls with skirts to remember is try and keep your skirts maybe a little simpler, like straight lines, anything like this with ruffles and a lot of fullness, may tend to get caught up, when they're trying to get to the bathroom quickly. So, I think skirts like these I would avoid until they've mastered, um, the toilet training.Avoid Belts on Pants
Another thing to avoid with girls is like belts, unnecessary belts, you know, a kid in a hurry is never going to be able to undo up a belt like this. So, I think the most important thing, obviously, to remember is just keep it really simple with really easy clothes that they can pull on and off.
