Hi, I'm Stephanie Gallagher for About.com, and today, I'll show you how to make magic reindeer dust.
Ingrediants to Make the Reindeer Dust
Magic reindeer dust, also called magic reindeer food, is just a fun Christmas craft to make with the kids. To make magic reindeer dust, you will need:
- 1 c. rolled oats
- 2-6 tbsp. red colored sugar
- 2-6 tbsp. green colored sugar
Making the Reindeer Dust
Place the oats and a few tablespoons of each colored sugar into a bowl and mix well. If you can't see the colored sugar, you may want to add more. The idea is to be able to see a little red and green sparkles in the oats. Now place the reindeer dust in a plastic bag. About two scoops is usually a good amount. And twist it. Cut a length of ribbon long enough to wrap wrap around the bag. And write the poem on a piece of paper, and cut it out with decorative scissors.
Writing the Christmas Poem
There are several versions of the poem, but the one I like is:
Sprinkle this reindeer food outside tonight. The moonlight will make it sparkle bright. As the reindeer fly and roam, this will guide them to your home.
Punch a hole in the poem, thread the ribbon through it, and tie it around the bag of magic reindeer dust. For an alternative poem, try this:
High above the rooftops it's Christmas time again. Our children are excited with their faces all a-grin. The house is ready for the big event, when Santa's sleigh will begin its descent. We'll sprinkle glitter to guide his flight. So he will arrive safe tonight.
