Ingredients for Cornflake Wreaths
To make cornflake wreaths, you will need:- 1/2 cup butter
- 3 cups miniature marshmallows
- 1/4 tsp almond extract
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Green food coloring
- 4 cups corn flakes cereal
- Small red candies, like red hots
Melt Marshmallows and Butter
Place the butter in a large bowl, and microwave it just until it's melted. Add the marshmallows to the bowl, and microwave them until they melt, stirring after every 30 seconds.Mix Ingredients and Food Coloring
Once the marshmallows and butter are melted and smooth, add the almond extract, the vanilla extract, and the green food coloring. Don't be alarmed if your marshmallow is a scary shade of green--adding the cornflakes dilutes the color, so you want it pretty dark to begin with.Form Cornflake Wreaths
Pour the cornflakes over the mixture and stir gently to coat the flakes, trying not to crush them. Keep stirring until all of the cornflakes are covered with the green marshmallow mixture.Place a heaping spoonful of candy onto the prepared baking sheet. Spray your hands with nonstick cooking spray, and gently form a hole in the middle of the candy, working it into a wreath shape. You can get about 8 large 3-inch wreaths from this recipe, but of course you can make your wreaths any size you like.
Add Decorations to Cornflake Wreaths and Set
While the candy is still sticky press three red hot candies on each wreath for decoration.Allow the wreaths to set at room temperature, then carefully remove them from the baking sheet. These wreaths are a fun holiday treat and activity idea for kids, and they make great table decorations for holidays parties.
