Transcript:Halloween Spider Cupcakes

Hi, I'm Stephanie Gallagher for About.com, and today' we're making spider cupcakes for Halloween.

Ingredients for Halloween Spider Cupcakes

For these cupcakes, you'll need already-baked cupcakes. For ease, today I'm using store-bought pumpkin cupcakes.

You'll need chocolate sandwich cookies (such as Oreos), and you'll need one cookie for each cupcake that you're making.

You'll need hard-covered chocolate candies (M&Ms).

You'll need licorice - 6 pieces for each cupcake. Now, I've taken thick licorice pieces and cut them down to about 1-1/2 inches in length.

You'll also need yellow gel icing and red gel icing.

Smooth Frosting

If you're using a store-bought cupcake, like I am, just smooth the frosting down with a knife to make sure it's nice and flat. And if you're using your own homemade cupcakes, just use a white frosting, and make sure you put on a nice, thick layer.

Create the Spider Decoration

So that's ready, and we'll put our spider body (the chocolate sandwich cookie) right in the middle of the cupcake. Then we're going to take our little pieces of licorice, and just stick them on, three on each side of the spider's body. And these are going to be the spider's legs. This is a great fun activity to do at kids' school Halloween parties.

Then we're going to take two M&Ms, and take the yellow gel icing, and squirt a little bit on the back of one M&M, and attach it to the spider's body. Then take the second green M&M and put a little gel icing on the back and attach it. There are two green spider's eyes.

Choose Your Spider's Mood

Depending on whether or not you want your spider to be scary - I like happy spiders - so I'm going to give him a smiling mouth with my red gel icing.

That's all for today. For more great recipes just like this one, join us on the web at About.com.
