Information About Setting the Table for Passover

Passover is a holiday full of ritual symbols that re-tell the Exodus story of the Jewish people from Egypt. Many of these symbols are displayed on the Seder plate, which is in the centerpiece of the Seder table. The items on the Seder plate each symbolize a different religious element of Passover.

Traditional Table for Passover

The traditional Seder plate has the following items laid out: A green vegetable, shank bone, hard boiled egg, charoset, bitter herbs and a bitter vegetable such as celery. It is very important to set the table with dinnerware that is different from your everyday tableware. Many families will purchase a separate set of plates and silverware specifically for Passover. You will need to purchase Kosher wine, enough for each guest to have 4 glasses. You will need an extra wine glass, placed in the middle of the table that is for Elijah. Fill the glass with Kosher wine.

Haggdah for Passover

Next, you place the haggadah which is the prayer book at each place setting. The haggadah contains the prayers for the seder, songs and four questions. Around Passover time you can pick up haggadah's at local food stores or print out an online version for your guests. You will also need a plate with 3 whole pieces of Matzoh on it. This will be used during the seder ritual. You will also need an Afikomen bag, you can use any type of cloth bag or napkin to wrap a piece of Matzoh in during the seder.
