Hi! I'm IT Career Counselor Christine Jorgensen for About.com and today I'm going to talk about writing a resume for project management executives. Finding an IT job can be a challenging task, but if you know where to look and how to present yourself, you'll have an easier time.

Tailor Your Resume for a Project Management Executive Position

When tailoring your resume for a project management executive position, you'll want to open with your pertinent information: name, address, email, and phone number. Next, describe your key project management qualifications within a succinct paragraph. Here's an example of what you should be writing: "Executive-Level Program Manager with 16 years of Information Technology (IT) and business management experience in both the public and private sector with key emphasis infrastructure management, billing and telecommunications, vendor management, and program management."

Include Your Education Background on Your Resume

Thirdly, you'll want to list your educational background. Give each school in bold and then a quick summary of your areas of study and the degree achieved. Next, give your certifications. In the field of executive project management, it's essential to list your qualifications.

How to List Your Work Experience for a Project Management Resume

Lastly, list your work experience. At this point, if you're prepared for an executive product management position, you'll have a lot of experience, not only at that level, but working up to that level, as well. Don't be shy here. This is where you will really standout from the competition. Make sure to list your current employer first. Here's a good example of how to formulate your work experience listings: List the title in bold italics, followed by a comma and then the current employer, followed by the dates worked. Then quickly bullet point out your work duties. Here's a good example of what to say and how to say it:

  • Responsible and accountable for the coordinated management of multiple related projects directed toward strategic business and other organizational objectives.
  • Build credibility, establish rapport, and maintain communication with stakeholders at multiple levels, including those external to the organization.

Hopefully now you have a better idea of how to compile a resume for a project management executive position. Thanks for watching. If you'd like to learn more, please find us on the web at About.com
