Transcript:Quick Tip: Discussing Career Goals in a Job Interview
Hello, I'm Frances Cole Jones, author of "How to WOW" and creator of the app Interview WOW and I'm here today to talk about the answer to, "What are your career goals?"
How to Answer the Job Interview Question "What Are Your Career Goals?"
This is a hard one because it's really big. It's what's known in my business as a "softball question" -- so big that you don't know what to swing at. What you don't want to do is be flip. Your instinct might be to say, "My career goal is to get this job." Don't do that. What I recommend doing instead is saying, "My career goal is to gain an in-depth knowledge of every aspect of this industry and to gain the leadership skills that are commensurate with this position."
The beauty of the back end of that answer is that it doesn't make it sound like you want the job of the person who is interviewing you. Thank you for watching. For more great tips, visit the careers channel on About.com.
