Transcript:How to Make Japanese Teriyaki SauceI'm Mamie Nishide of the Japanese Cooking Studio in New York for About.com. In this video, I'm going to show you how to prepare Teriyaki sauce.
Ingredients for Japanese Teriyaki SauceTo make Teriyaki sauce, you will need:
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1 tablespoon ginger, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup mirin
- 1 cup sake
- 1 cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sugar, optional
Make the Japanese Teriyaki SauceFirst let's prepare the garlic. Crush with the side of the knife. Now slice the ginger. The ginger and the crushed garlic is going to give a nice flavor to the Teriyaki sauce. Bring everything to boil, simmer 5 minutes.
Now put everything in a pot-- crushed garlic, sliced ginger, mirin, soy sauce, and sake. Heat it up. When it boils, let it simmer for 5 minutes. Now 5 minutes is over. The sauce is reduced -- nice and thicker. Now let it cool.
When the sauce has cooled, strain. You can use this Teriyaki sauce for vegetables, chicken, fish, anything you like. Put it in a jar, and keep it in a refrigerator.
