Hi, I'm Ben Kurtzman with About.com Food and today I am going to share with you a couple of tips and techniques for how to cut bell peppers.Position the Bell Pepper
The problem with just chopping into a bell pepper is if you are not careful you can spread the seed everywhere and make a big mess.Filet the Pepper Edges
The first thing for this trick is to take the red pepper and set it down upside down so that the stem is touching your cutting board. Once you have the pepper upside down, you want to take your knife to the center of the pepper, angle it to the outside, and just carefully filet the edges, leaving the seeds and the gunk in the middle, that you do not want to eat anyway. And now, the other side. And, finally...Now that we have our nice wide filets, we can soak them in a marinade and throw them on the grill, or just roast them in the oven, or, you can cut them into smaller pieces for crudite or dice them for a sauce, or cut them into smaller strips for a stir-fry or something like that. Whatever you like.>
Slice the Bell Pepper Filets
So with two quick strokes we were able to make a piece this size, which is perfect for a crudite or a dip. Now we are going to take another filet and cut it into finer strips then dice them up so we can use them for a sauté later.Chop Bite-Size Bell Peppers
Gather them together like so, and then dice them. I hope these simple tricks make it easier for you to cut and clean bell peppers and use them in all your favorite dishes. To learn more, visit us on the Web at food.about.com.
