Hi. I am Don Schechter for About.com computing. Today I am going to show you how to browse and download podcasts in iTunes.


What are Podcasts?

Podcasts are downloadable radio-style shows and some also show video. Podcasts can be listened to or viewed through iTunes or an iPod just like music in your iTunes library. Older models of the iPod are not able to view video.

Downloading Podcasts from the iTunes Store

You can download free podcasts from the iTunes Store. Some websites charge for podcasts.

First, click iTunes Store. After it loads, click podcasts from Inside the iTunes Store. Now that you re on the main Podcast page, you can select from categories or top picks, or do a search for something of interest to you.

Once you ve found something your interested, to download a single episode, click Get Episode.

Subscribing to a Podcast with iTunes

If you want to subscribe to a podcast, click Subscribe. iTunes downloads the most recent episode. As new episodes become available, they are automatically downloaded to iTunes (when you are connected to the Internet). If you know the Internet address of a podcast, you can subscribe to it without using the iTunes Store. Choose Advanced > "Subscribe to Podcast" and then enter the URL. You can usually find the URL of a podcast on that podcast s webpage.

Manage Podcast Subscriptions with iTunes

Podcasts take up disk space on your computer, so if space is an issue, make sure you keep an eye on your subscriptions. To control how podcast are downloaded, go to Edit on a PC or go to the iTunes drop down-menu on a Mac and in both cases click on Preferences and then click Podcasts. You can change the number of episodes iTunes downloads, how often new podcasts you subscribe to are downloaded, and set iTunes to delete podcasts after you ve listened to them. Click OK to save the changes.

Unsubscribe from a Podcast

To unsubscribe to a podcast, select a podcast or episode from your podcast library and then click Unsubscribe (at the bottom of the iTunes window).
