Hi, I'm Devita Jacobs for About.com and today I'm going to show you a few tips to extend the battery life on your iPod Touch.

The Battery Will Last Longer if the iPod Touch is Kept Out of the Sun

According to Apple, the most important thing is to keep your iPod out of the sun or a hot car as heat degrades your battery’s performance the most. Also, make sure to download the latest software for your iPod through iTunes. There may be features in the update to help you optimize battery performance. Using your device regularly helps your battery remain in top condition since it is lithium-based. Your iPod Touch should go through at least one charge cycle per month.

Conserve the iPod Battery by Adjusting the Settings

To conserve your battery life, turn off your Wi-Fi connection. WiFi consumes power even if you are not using its features to connect to a network. Go to Settings > General > Network > Wi-Fi.Dimming the screen is another way to extend battery life on iPod touch. Go to Settings > Brightness and drag the slider to the left to lower the default screen brightness. In addition, turning on Auto-Brightness allows the screen to adjust its brightness based on current lighting conditions. Go to Settings > Brightness and set Auto-Brightness to On.

Certain Applications will Drain the iPod Touch Battery Faster

Excessive use of applications on iPod touch, such as games that prevent the screen from dimming or shutting off, can reduce battery life. Many applications request the option to send you push notifications. Turn these off by going to Settings > Notifications and set Notifications to Off. Be sure to also turn off any incoming emails until you are ready to check them by going to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Fetch New Data and setting Push to the Off position. Turning off push notifications means your device is consuming less of your battery when it is not in active use.
