Transcript:Construct a Homemade Floral Wreath

Hi, I'm Karla Dehncke and welcome to About.com. Today I'm going to show you how to make a wreath perfect for any time of year that adds joy to your home, and is really fun to make.

Supplies Needed to Make a Wreath

To make this everyday wreath, you will need:
  • a grapevine wreath - this one is a spray version which means that the branches are spraying out of the binding
  • an assortment of artificial florals
  • craft wire and wire cutter
  • a glue gun in case any of the florals wont stay in place

Prepare the Floral Pieces

So, let's get started. First thing you're going to do is take your floral pieces and cut off anything you don't want to use. You don't want to have too much greenery, and you want to pick the best looking greenery so I am going to go ahead and cut this off. That's where your wire cutters will come in handy because these floral arrangements are much too thick to use regular scissors.

Arrange the Flowers on the Wreath

Then, you're going to kind of just cut it where you think you want your bunches to be. And once you have everything cut and ready to go you can kind of start the creative process and start arranging the wreath.

So, this is where the fun begins. Now you get to play with all the different pieces and see how you would like to have them arranged on the wreath. I think I am going to start with the dried florals first, and just kind of work my way around the wreath until I like the way it looks.

I suggest laying everything out to make sure you like it before attaching it because once you start with the glue gun you can make a mess if you try and take it apart again. Okay, and then what we'll do is, we'll just add some of the smaller pink flowers for color punch.

Attach the Flowers to the Wreath

So now we can start to attach everything. Were going to start with the wire and if we find anything doesn't stay in place well go ahead and start up the hot glue gun.

Working with a grapevine wreath is really easy, just take the wire and run it through the wreath and around the stem of the floral, and then back out again. Try to wind the wire through the branches so that its not real obvious when youre looking at the wreath hanging on the wall.

The nice thing about layering florals is that the next piece actually covers the while from the previous piece.

Finish Spacing Out Flowers

Ok, so this is what we have so far. Now, were going to go ahead and add the smaller flowers to add a punch of color. But because they are small enough that we don't have a lot of stem to attach with the wire, were going to use the glue gun.

These wreaths really add a personal touch to home decoration. Thanks for watching to learn more visit us on the Web at About.com.
