Hi, I am Sarah Willis of Decor by Denise and today I am going to talk to you about how to add small burst of color to your room with paint.

Paint an Accent Wall to Add a Burst of Color to a Room

One of most common ways to add a pop of color to your room is to paint an accent wall. But oftentimes home owners find it difficult to select the color that's going to work in the room. So what I recommend is go and select your favorite accessory which could be either a vase a decorative pillow or a chair with the print, pick a color from that family and make sure that it works with your existing colors and paint that on your wall.

Paint Moldings to Add a Burst of Color to a Room

You can also try painting the moldings in your house. What you would do is paint them in more contrasting color. These moldings would include your crown molding, base molding and the molding around your window frames.

Color Blocking Adds a Burst of Color to a Room

You can also try adding stripes or color blocking to a room. This is especially great for children's room and play areas because you can use multiple colors to create a fun and funky environment, but if you are looking for something a little bit more subdued, try painting the walls the same color, but using different finishes like flat and eggshell as they will create more of a textured effect, visual interest versus multiple colors.

Paint Furniture to Add a Burst of Color to a Room

And then why not try painting a piece of furniture or light fixture? Color doesn't just have to be on the walls, but what I would say is go to a consignment's shop or thrift store and use something inexpensive to test out first and make sure you are really going to like it. That way you don't waste a lot of money.

So with a little time, imagination, brush and some paint, you too could have a designer worthy home in no time. Happy decorating!
