Transcript:How to Set Up a Google Talk Account
Hi, I'm Nick and today for About.com, I'm going to show you how to set up a new account with Google Talk.
What Is Google Talk?
Google Talk is an Instant Messenger that can be used either on your desktop or within your Gmail browser. If you've already got a Gmail account, you can use that to sign in to Google Talk; however, if you need to set up a new account, open the program and select the "Don't Have an Account" option. From here, you'll be taken to the registration page where you'll have to enter information such as your name, password and username. Be aware, if your username is unavailable, you'll have to select another one.
Verify Your Account to Set Up a Google Talk Account
When all of your information has been entered, read and agree to Google's Terms of Service and then click the 'Next Step' option. To verify your account, you may be required to enter a verification code. You can either get this sent to your phone as a text message or as an automated voice call. Enter your location and phone number and then click 'Send Verification Code'. Once you have received your code, enter it into the Verification Code box and click Verify.
Additional Tips for Setting Up a Google Talk Account
Now your new Google Talk account has been created! You can edit details such as your avatar picture if you wish, however, you can also jump straight back to Google Talk and sign in using your new details, if you prefer.
