Hi! This is Meghan Lynn Allen for About.com, and today we'll talk about how to write a human resources generalist job description. The human resources generalist manages the day to day resources of the human resource office. They oversee the staff, who manage all the day-to-day procedures in the HR office.

Write a Job Description that Lists Responsibilities

Include the title of the position right at top of the description - in this case, it would be human resources generalist. The department is usually human resources office. In the job description, you wan to include the overall responsibilities of the job, as well as the key or specific duties that need to be carried out. You can start with a paragraph of the overall job responsibilities - try to keep it to four or five sentences - and then a short, bullet list of the duties that are expected of this new employee.

Note the Human Resources Experience Necessary in the Job Description

Next, include the term of employment, which could be part-time, full-time, temporary, temp-to-hire, or permanent from the start, as well as the qualifications required for the job. You may require a specific number of minimum years of experience - for example, a minimum of three years in the financial industry. But never include an upper limit - that way you avoid age discrimination.

Highlight Preferred Features of Potential Employees

It's okay to say you prefer someone who has two years of experience, or you would prefer someone with a specific license, even though it's not a requirement for the job. This will help tighten and narrow the pool of applicants and bring you the best human resources generalists that you can find.

The human resources generalist is crucial in developing your company's existing workforce, so be sure to write a well-targeted job description that will enhance the success of your company. Thanks for watching. To learn more, visit us on the web at About.com.
