Transcript:Tips for Buying a Coffee MakerHi, I'm Debbie Anderson for About.com. Are you tired? Cranky? Wish you had a cup o' java to kick-start your day? Well, then here are a few important features to consider before buying a coffee maker.
No-Mess Coffee Pot FeaturesThere's nothing worse than jonesin' for that first cup of coffee in the morning while still waiting for the coffee to brew, and if you happen to pull out the coffee pot too soon, sometimes this can create a real mess. Thankfully, most all-new coffee makers now have a special feature called Pause 'n' Serve.
This feature allows you to remove the coffee pot before the brewing cycle is complete, without having coffee dribble all over the heating plate. The opening under the filter is low and touches the top of the pot, and when the pot is removed, the valve closes as you take out the coffee pot.
Digital Controls and Coffee PotsAnother great feature to look for when buying a new coffee maker, are Digital Controls that encompass a variety of little features, such as LCD display screens, clocks, and a timer that will allow you to program the coffee maker to automatically brew a fresh pot of coffee without hitting the ON Switch. The digital controls are also usually packaged with an auto-off feature to prevent fires if you forget to turn off the coffee maker after use.
Coffee Pots and Reusable FiltersWhile shopping for a new coffee maker, consider one that will allow you to use a re-usable filter. Not only will the reduce the amount of money you spend on paper filters, but it can also improve the taste of your coffee.
Coffee Bean Grinder FeaturesAnd if you are tired of grinding your coffee beans in the morning, some coffee makers even come with a built-in bean grinder.
Single Serve Coffee PotsFinally, for those of you that enjoy ONLY a single cup of coffee in the morning, single serving pod coffee makers offer the freedom to brew either a variety of prepackaged, no mess, no fuss flavors, or you can brew your favorite grounded beans by using a re-usable pod basket.
With so many convenient choices out there, there is no longer a reason to be cranky in the morning! Thank you for watching. To learn more, please visit us on the Web at homegarden.about.com.
