Hi, my name is Eve Degrezia. I'm Director of Sales and Design for Manhattan Plant Experts in New York City, here for About.com. I am here to talk to you about greening your environment, whether it is in your workplace or at home.

Why Use Plants in the Workplace?

The main reason we encourage plants in any environment is that they ingest allergens, pollutants, recycle them, push out fresh air through their leaves - encouraging productivity and a cleaner environment.

Plants to Clean the Air

The plants here on this table, I like to use, whether I am designing a residential space or a commercial space. One being, your beautiful heart-shaped philodendron; another being your marble queen, which is part of the pathos; another would be your Warnecki, considered the jumbo Warnecki. And lastly, the peace lily. These are all beautiful plants that take in pollutants and take in allergens, and they purify the air that we breathe.

We had this one building that was a sick building. Because their clients were complaining, they brought us in to bring in very large plants -- and they helped their workplace and people were feeling better.

Easy Plant Car

These are all low-light plants, so it does not really matter what type of light you are putting them in -- they will do well in all artificial light. They will do even better in natural light, but they do not need the natural light to survive.

We refer to plants as living art. They not only give a beautiful look, they are graceful, and health-wise, they make a difference.
