Hi. I'm Debbie Anderson for About.com.Making the bed can feel like a daunting task sometimes! So today, I'm going to show you how to make a bed so that it looks and feels great in just a few easy steps!
Tips for Making a Bed
For this task, you will need a fitted bed sheet, a flat bed sheet, pillow cases, and a comforter.Spreading the Fitted Bed Sheet
First, unfold and spread the fitted bed sheet flat across the top of the mattress so that the fitted corners are aligned with the corners of the mattress.Then, place your hand inside the corner hem of the fitted sheet and slide each of the corners of the fitted sheet over, down, and around each of the corners on the mattress.
Spread out any wrinkles in the fitted sheet with your hands so that the sheet is lying flat and smooth across the top surface of the mattress.
Draping the Flat Bed Sheet
Next, drape the flat sheet evenly over the bed so that there is about one foot of the sheet fabric hanging beyond the foot end of the bed.For the two corners at the foot end of the bed, create hospital corners to secure the flat sheet to the underside of the mattress.
To do this, pull the hem of the flat sheet toward you into a taut crease, then raise the creased section over the mattress so that the sheet makes a triangle tent over the bed. Using your other hand, carefully smooth out the sheet so that it is running flat along the mattress' side. Then fold the creased section down over the side, and tuck the flat sheet snugly under the mattress at each side of the foot of the bed.
Leave the sides of the top flat sheet untucked for easier sleeping at night.
Finishing Steps for Making a Bed
Next, place a comforter over the top flat sheet on the bed and smooth out any wrinkles or folds in the comforter.Finally, slide each pillow into a clean pillow case and place each of the pillows at the head of the bed so that the made bed looks neat and clean.
And just like that, you have a beautifully made bed!
