Transcript:How to Use a Steam Mop

Hi! I am Indira Fernandez with Cinderella's Cleaning Services in Houston, Texas, and toady I am going to talk to you about how to use a steam mop.

What Is a Steam Mop?

A steam mop is an electrical appliance used to clean and sanitize hard floor surfaces, and it does not use any chemicals; all you need is water and the mop.

Before Using a Steam Mop

Before you actually plug the machine and start using it, you really need to vacuum the area. These mops come with a microfiber pad that you actually put on the machine. It is recommended that you actually put on the cloth before you even plug it in. I have put in what is recommended to be distilled water into the container. Once the light turns on it's a sign that it's already heated. So this machine actually heats up pretty quick. There is also a little lever back here that we press on to actually release some of the water and do some of the work. So let's say you have a baby and you also have some pets and you want to sanitize the area a little more, then you actually go a notch slower.

Instructions for Using the Steam Mop

Give the steam time to do some of its work. After you have cleaned a certain area, check on your mop, and depending on how dirty your cloth is, you can change it out, throw this one in the washer. Make sure that they are clean so you can reuse them over and over again. Again, to remove the pad, you actually have to unplug the machine. Do not remove the pad while your machine is still on, because you might injure yourself. The best way to maintain your mop is to make sure before you store it that you take out all of the water and take out any pads that may be wet or still dirty. Also, it is very important to check on the filter. And in this particular case it's got kind of a greenish and beige looking little pebbles, which actually -- once they turn blue, it's a signal that it's time to also change the filter. And these are some tips on how to use a steam mop.
