Transcript:How to Clean a Bathtub

Hi, I'm JJ Burkart for About.com. I'm going to show you how to clean a bathtub.

Bathtub Cleaning Supplies

You are going to need: bathroom cleaner spray, a bucket, a sponge, an old toothbrush and a pair of protective gloves, and an old clean old towel.

Remove Items from Bathtub

Before cleaning remove all extra items such as shampoo bottles, soap, and children's bath toys out of the tub. Also, make sure to remove hair from the drain to prevent from clogging it.

Wet the Bathtub

Next you will need to wet the bathtub down. You can use the water from the bath faucet. Then take the spray bottle with the mixture and spray it over the entire tub. Put on your protective gloves and using a sponge lightly scrub the dirtier areas of your bathtub. Then allow the cleaner to sit for 10 min. This will make scrubbing easier later on.

Scrub the Bathtub

After 10 min. resume scrubbing. Spray any of the cleaner on and let it set on the grimier section. After a few minutes continue scrubbing where you just applied cleaner. If the dirt stain still will not come off try scrubbing it with an old toothbrush and the same solution.

Use Tile Spray

If you have mold along the sealed edge of your tub, whether its tile grout or caulk mildew spray will do the trick. Simply spray along the moldy edge and let the solution sit for several minutes. You will see the mold disappear and the normal color return.

Rinse and Bathtub

When all of the dirt stains are scrubbed away rinse the soup suds down the drain using water from the bath faucet. The shower sprayer works well, but may not reach the entire tub. Fill a small bucket and gently pour water along the top edge of the tub.

Dry the Bathtub

Dry off the bathtub using a towel to prevent mold or mildew. Leave the curtain or door around your tub partway open to allow for better air circulation to help the drying process.

The more regularly you clean your bathtub the easier it is to clean and, if neglected for too long, mildew and mold will start to build. So remember to clean your tub!
