Hi! I'm Debbie Anderson for About.com. Spring cleaning can require a lot of cleaning supplies, so today I'm going to show you the six basic spring cleaning supply categories and what the supplies are used for.

Basic Dusting Supplies

For this first category, every home needs basic dusting supplies, and in this category you will need microfiber cloths for general dusting and to clean delicate or more intricate items, such as, your electronics. You will also need a vacuum cleaner and vacuum cleaner dusting attachments to clean stairs, floors, and wall or ceiling areas around the home. Finally, always make sure that you have a few good dusting sprays and furniture polishes that are made specifically for the materials you are dusting or polishing in your home.

Trash Management Supplies

In the next category, you will need supplies for trash removal and trash management. These supplies include trash cans of appropriate sizes for every room in the home, as well as trash bags to use as trash can liners for every trash container. Finally, always remember to create a separate container for recycling.

General Surface Cleaning Supplies

The third category of spring cleaning supplies is for general surface cleaning. For this category, you will need: all purpose cleaner, kitchen cleaner or wipes, bathroom cleaner or wipes, sponges, paper towels, cleaning cloths, scrubbers, such as a toilet bowl scrubbing brush, and a pair of rubber gloves. Use these supplies to wipe, scrub, or dab up messes around the home, and to perform regular cleaning tasks, such as cleaning the toilet in your bathroom, or wiping down small appliances in the home.

Specialty Cleaning Supplies

Next, create another category of special cleaners that are specifically designed for the uses in your home, such as, oven cleaners, liquid dish soap, wood polish, leather furniture wipes and cleaners, laundry soap, glass cleaner, bleach, air fresheners for pet odors, or metal polishing cleaners.

Floor Cleaning Supplies

The fifth category of spring cleaning supplies focuses on items you will need to clean the floors around your home. This category can include: a dust pan and a broom for cleaning up small messes on the floor, a vacuum cleaner with attachments for vacuuming the carpet or large area rugs, a mop and a bucket for regularly cleaning the filth and grime off of the floor, and special mopping solutions or floor polishes to create the look you want on your varying floor surfaces.

Organizational Supplies

Finally, the sixth category of spring cleaning supplies includes cleaning up and organizing the clutter in your home. For this category, use sealable storage bags for extra clothing items and use clear storage containers to organize and neatly stack excess home supplies for each room in your home. Once your clothing and household items are organized, use labels, file folders, and a file folder organizer to organize and store your home's important paperwork.
