Transcript:Quick Tip: Audio Considerations When Buying an HDTV

Hi, I'm Bob Murphy, branch manager at Listen Up Audio and Video in Boulder, Colorado. Today, I am here for About.com.

Sound Bars are Associated with Flat Panel TVs

One of the things you will find as you are shopping for a flat screen TV, is while they squeezed the TV down to fit on the wall, they actually squeezed out space for the speakers. Sound bars are the common term that is available that talk about a speaker that is added on to your high definition TV. This can hang on the wall underneath your TV, it can attach to your TV, it can go in a cabinet underneath your TV, but in all cases you want to add something to your TV that is going to give you better sound, and it should be placed as close as possible to the TV.

Surround Sound is Best for HDTVs

And in a better system, we are going to be talking about surround sound. Many of the programs, both on TV, cable, satellite, and of course anything on a Blu-Ray or DVD disc, anything recorded in the last 10 years, is going to have tremendous multi-channel surround sound. You can take advantage of all the speakers, and get the full effect of what the movie maker had in mind.
