Transcript:How to Write the Alphabet in the D'nealian Style

Hi, my name is Rebecca Blomker and I was an AP English teacher for five years before I decided to stay home and educate my sons. Today I will be illustrating for you the D’nealian handwriting method for About.com.

D'nealian Style Handwriting is Slanted

We are going to begin with the letter A in the D’nealian style. The thing to remember about the D’nealian is that this is a slanted alphabet, and the piont of it is that we are using fewer strokes than the regular, so very fluid motions with lots of curly cues.

So A we begin at the top line and do a slanted diagonal line to the bottom. Then go back to the top do a straight line down to the middle, do a straight line across. Now for the little A, we go just underneath the middle line, and we do one fluid beautiful motion, down to the bottom line, and up and down for our beautiful curly cue.

Then for a B, we are going to do another slanted line, we are going to start at the top, right here, we are going to do one fluid motion for our b. So down, nice slanted line, one nice rounded bottom part to the middle line then up to make the top. Then for the little b, it is going to be on nice fluid motion as well. We are going to start at the top do a slanted line and then come around, so down do a slant, hit the bottom come up.
