Hi, I'm Tom Pierro and today on About.com we're going to talk about the white mosaic bathroom tile design.
Where Do you Find White Mosaic Tile Design?
Typically, we find this tile in classic retro designs but it's not something you would find in a modern or contemporary home. These tiles were mainly used in the Twenties and Thirties but now people are starting to use them a lot more.
How are White Mosaic Tiles Sold?
White mosaic tile comes on sheets, twelve inches by twelve inches. It could be random shapes with mosaics. It could be octagon. It could be square. You can also have mosaics in like five eighths of an inch or you could have them in one inch – right up to about under two inches would be considered mosaics.
Sometimes you have glass mosaics; sometimes they're porcelain or ceramic. So "mosaic" is really just the size of them.
Even though this is random length, this is considered a mosaic tile. These are larger. They're inch and a half by inch and a half but this is the classic mosaic tile. Mosaics come either on a mesh board or also you can just see them glued together.
How to Install White Mosaic Tiles
You can see with the mosaic tiles they fit into each other. The challenge with mosaics is installing them. They're installed on a mesh sheet from the factory and a lot of times they're crooked on the sheet. When you're installing them you sometimes need to cut them free from the mesh and then move them around a little bit.
What's old is new again. People are using this design a lot more where they're using a lot more claw foot tubs and freestanding showers and tubs. This tile is being used a lot more on the floors.
The reason people are returning back to that look is because it was a classic look and timeless.
