Hi! I’m John Summers for About.com and today we’re talking about the L-Shaped Kitchen Layout. We’re here at Creative Design Custom Kitchen and Bath in Brewster, New York. Designing a kitchen is all about maximizing space. You will need to consider where your refrigerator, sink, stove top and oven will be located within the unit and how much room you have. The L-Shape Design Works for Smaller Kitchen Floor Plans
In a small to mid sized kitchen, L-Shape may be the best layout for you. After looking at your space and determining an L-Shape works best for you, this would be very typical of what we would normally do for an L-Shaped kitchen.Place Kitchen Appliances in a Triangle Formation
Normally the range and the refrigerator would be located roughly on the same wall for easy access from the refrigerator to the stove. Normally the sink and dishwasher would be located on the next wall. In an L-shaped kitchen, the work triangle is the space between the sink, range and refrigerator. In an L-Shaped kitchen you want to be very careful that you don’t put appliances too far apart.L-Shape Kitchens Maximize Counterspace
An L-Shaped kitchen is usually a better lay out than a one wall kitchen because you end up with more counter space and better placement for the appliances. One thing to consider in any kitchen design would be workspace. It’s very important to have counter top left and right of your sink, also work space left and right of your range. In an L-Shaped kitchen, we try to use corner cabinets to maximize storage space. When planning your kitchen, you should talk to a design expert to determine what layout is best for your plans. You’ll want to talk to an experienced design expert in order to make sure this layout is right for you.
