No matter where you work, the type of lighting you use in your workspace will help you focus and be more productive. Lighting not only can help increase your efficiency when completing tasks, it can also stop you from becoming fatigued while doing them.
Desk Lamps: Use Indirect Lighting
An important tip to remember when looking for proper lighting for your work space is to make sure you keep lighting indirect. Overhead lights can be harsh when directly on you and your workspace. It's best to make sure to try and soften any direct light that you can. Using lamps that have shades on them is the best form of desk lighting as it diffuses the direct light.
Desk Lamps: Use Lighting Appropriate to Your Tasks
For work where you are required to focus on a given area, it's best to have the area you are working on well lit. If the task you are doing requires reading then it's important having your reading material well-lit. Desk lamps that can be adjusted to put light exactly where you need are perfect for saving your eyes from straining from the lack of light.
Desk Lamps: Use Natural Light
When possible, utilizing natural lighting as a great way to have a well-lit workspace. It is best to focus on making sure that you have enough lamps in your workspace since natural light isn't always available.
Desk Lamps: Place Lamps Properly
Where your lighting is coming from is extremely important in order for your eyes to not become fatigued. If you are working on a computer, for example, a light source behind you will be seen in the reflection on the screen. Focusing on minimizing shadows as much possible in your workspace is a good goal to work towards.
Desk Lamps: Decorative Lighting
It's best to have accent lighting throughout your workspace and focused lighting for tasks you are doing. Besides having these lights to help you work better, in order to have an overall comfortable working environment, it's best to have lighting as decoration as well. Lighting that focuses on features in the room helps to give an overall pleasant ambiance that is inviting and comfortable.
