Transcript:Tips for Using Sun-Dried TomatoesHi, I am Sheilah Kaufman, cooking teacher, cookbook author, food editor and culinary lecturer. And today I am going to talk to you about using sun-dried tomatoes.
Buying and Reconstituting Sun-Dried TomatoesSun-dried tomatoes can be purchased two different ways. You can buy them dried or packed in oil. When you bought the dried ones, you have to reconstitute them by soaking them in water for about 30 minutes.
You'll want to use them immediately or pack them in olive oil and refrigerate them for up to two weeks. It's very important if you're using water that it be boiling, you just want to make sure that it's water to cover.
Add Sun-Dried Tomatoes to Pastas, Bread, Vegetable or Meat DishesConsider adding sun-dried tomatoes to your bread dough or adding them to your favorite dish. Sun-dried tomatoes go great with many other vegetables, meats, and pastas. Remember, they are a salty addition, and therefore, a little goes a long way.
Also, once sun dried tomatoes are reconstituted, they make a great snack. Consider varying the liquid you soak them to change the taste -- experiment with water, oil, wine, and broth until you find the taste you love the most. So here are some tips for you and thanks for watching.
