Transcript:How to Prepare an Acorn Squash for CookingHi, I am Chef Evelyn Paul and today, I am going to show you how to prepare an acorn squash for cooking.
Supplies Needed to Prepare an Acorn Squash for CookingTo prepare your squash for cooking, you will need:
- a stable cutting board
- a sharp knife
- a spoon
- a bowl
Pierce the Squash to Prepare an Acorn Squash for CookingTo prepare the squash for cooking, first I pierce the squash with the knife. Then work the knife around the squash to the center. Once the squash is halved, I then take my spoon and scrape the seeds into the bowl.
Like pumpkin seeds, you can also roast acorn squash seeds. First, you will need to rinse any excess pulp from the seeds before roasting. I like to add a little chili pepper of chili flakes to my acorn squash seeds when roasting.
Cook the Pulp to Prepare an Acorn Squash for CookingIf you are going to use the pulp, you will need to cook it first to separate it from the skin. Put it in a bowl, cover it and microwave it on high for about 30 minutes. You don't need to add water.
Never boil the squash, because boiling damages the flavor and the texture. To test for doneness squeeze the squash, it should yield to gentle pressure.
