Hey guys, Greyson Ferguson here with About.com. Today we are going to make Indian Tandoori chicken.

Ingredients for the Tandoori Chicken

To begin, you'll need:
  • 2 pounds of chicken
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • the juice of one lemon
  • 1-1/4 cups of plain yogurt
  • 1/2 chopped onion
  • 1 chopped clove of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon of ginger
  • 2 teaspoons of garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of yellow food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon of red food coloring
  • 2 teaspoons of chopped cilantro

Marinate the Meat to Make Tandoori Chicken

Cut the chicken into small pieces. You can do this rather easily with a sharp pair of kitchen scissors. The overall size of the chicken pieces does not matter. You can make them bite-size to several inches. Add the chicken into a container and add in the lemon juice and the salt, then mix to coat evenly.

Combine the remaining ingredients, minus the cilantro, into a separate bowl, then cover the chicken. Slide the chicken into your fridge and keep cool overnight to marinate the meat.

Grill or Cook the Tandoori Chicken

Remove the meat the following day and place onto a medium heat stove top. Once the sauce begins to thin the chicken is done. This should take 10 minutes or so to complete. Take the meat off of the stove top and serve.

If you have larger pieces of chicken, you can also grill the meat. To check if the meat is done when performing this method, cut one section of the chicken and make sure you don't see any pink.
