Ingredients for 7 Layer Bars

To make seven layer bars, you will need:
  • 1 cup of sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1-1/3 cup of graham cracker crumbs, from about 9 crackers
  • 1 cup finely chopped nuts
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup white chocolate chips
  • ½ cup butterscotch chips
  • 1 14-oz can sweetened condensed milk

Toast the Coconut

Start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spread the coconut out on a small baking tray and put it in the oven. Make sure to stir it every few minutes so it doesn’t burn, and take it out when it smells toasty and is a beautiful light brown color.

Prepare the Crust

Line a 9x9 pan with aluminum foil and spray the foil with nonstick cooking spray. Make the bottom crust by melting the stick of butter in the microwave, then pour the melted butter into the graham cracker crumbs. Stir until the butter coats the crumbs and they start to clump together.

Pour the crumbs into the bottom of the pan and press them into an even layer.

Mix in the Rest of the Ingredients

Now it’s time to dump everything else in! Sprinkle the nuts over the graham cracker crust, then add the chocolate chips, the white chocolate chips, the butterscotch chips, and finally the toasted coconut on top.

Add Condensed Milk as an Adhesive

We’re going to use the condensed milk to hold everything together, so open the can of milk and pour it over the top of the bars, trying to cover most of the surface. Don’t worry if you miss a few spots, as it bakes it will bubble up and everything will get coated eventually.

Bake the 7 Layer Bars

Bake the bars until they’re bubbly and the top is golden brown, about 25 minutes.

Serve the 7 Layer Bars

These are really gooey when they’re first baked, so you need to let them cool for at least 2 hours before you try to take them out of the pan and slice them. However, once they’re cool, they hold together nicely. Use a sharp knife to cut them into small squares.

These seven-layer bars are an awesome combination of gooey filling, crunchy nuts and coconut, and three kinds of sweet chocolate chips and the best part is, they couldn’t be easier to make.
