Transcript:How to Make Oven-Baked Chicken Wings

Hi, I'm Chef William Richards for About.com. Chicken wings are a quick and easy appetizer for any gathering. Most recipes call for deep-frying but they're just as good baked. Be sure to plan ahead on this recipe. You'll need at least 4 hours to marinate before baking.

Ingredients for the Oven-Baked Chicken Wings

Here's what you'll need for this recipe:
  • 24 chicken wings & drumettes
  • 1 cup of baking mix -- we're using Bisquick original baking mix
  • 2 tablespoons or a quarter stick of butter
  • 1 cup of liquid hot sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon of onion salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • Blue cheese dressing for dipping

Marinate the Oven-Baked Chicken Wings

For the marinade, blend together 1 cup of hot sauce with 3/4 teaspoon of garlic salt. Pour the mixture over the chicken, cover and refrigerate for about 4 hours.

Preheat your oven to 450 degrees and melt the butter on a 15-1/2 inch by 10-1/2 inch pan. Stir together the baking mix, onion salt, black pepper and cayenne pepper. Remove the wings from the sauce and throw out the excess marinade.

Coat the Oven-Baked Chicken Wings

Completely coat all sides of the chicken with the baking mixture, then place on the pan in a single layer.

Bake one side at 25 minutes then turn the chicken over and cook for another 25 minutes until golden brown. Serve on a platter with blue cheese dressing. Enjoy.
