Ingredients for Making Dump Cake

To make a dump cake, you will need:
  • 1 (20-oz) can of crushed pineapple, undrained
  • 1 (21-oz) can of "more fruit" cherry pie filling
  • 1 (18-oz) box of yellow cake mix
  • 2 sticks of butter, cut into pieces
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts

Instructions for Making Dump Cake

Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, or 325 if you're using a glass pan. Dump the can of crushed pineapple, along with its juices, in the bottom of a 13x9 pan and use a spatula to spread it into an even layer. Now take the cherry pie filling and spoon it over the pineapple, trying to spread it evenly so that most of the pan is covered with cherries. Use your spatula again to spread it all over.

Sprinkle the cake mix over the cherry and pineapple layers, making sure that you use all of it and that it's spread evenly. Place the slices of butter evenly over the cake mix. You're not going to be able to cover the whole area, but as the butter melts it will spread, so just try to get it in pretty even intervals.

Finishing the Dump Cake

Finally, sprinkle the chopped nuts over the cake, and once those are added, it's ready to bake!Bake the dump cake for 1 hour at 350 degrees, or 325 for a glass pan. After an hour, take it from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack. The top should be crackly and golden, and the filling will bubble up all around the sides. To serve the dump cake, treat it like a fruit cobbler and scoop it up using a spatula or a spoon. It's good on its own, but it's even better if you add a little vanilla ice cream or whipped cream on top. Enjoy!
