Hi, I'm Gary Chisholm with About.com, and today we're making beef and Guinness stew, from a recipe on About.com's home cooking site.Ingredients for Beef and Guinness Stew
For this recipe you'll need:- Two pounds of lean stewing beef
- One and a quarter cups Guinness stout beer
- Two cups carrots
- Two large onions
- One clove of garlic
- Two tablespoons flour
- Three tablespoons oil
- Two tablespoons tomato puree
- Salt, pepper and cayenne
Instructions for Making Beef Guinness Stew
Toss the beef cubes in a bowl together with a tablespoon of oil.In a separate plate, mix together the flour, salt, black pepper and cayenne. Coat the beef with the flour mixture.Heat two tablespoons of oil in a large frying pan over high heat. Add the beef cubes and brown them on all sides.Add the chopped onions, crushed garlic, and tomato puree. Cover it and cook on medium-low for five minutes.Move everything to a casserole dish, and pour a half a cup of Guinness into the frying pan. Bring it to a boil, stirring constantly, until everything is dissolved.Pour this and the rest of the Guinness into the casserole dish. Add the chopped carrots and a bit of thyme.Cover the casserole dish and bake in the oven at 300 degrees for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. You can also simmer this on the stovetop for two to three hours; it comes out just as delicious. The beer mixes with the beef to give it a really good, tender flavor.Check out this recipe and others at Food.About.com and thanks for watching.
