Hi, I'm Jen D'Amore for About.com and this video is all about how to make a tulsi compress for headaches.
Healing Properties of Tulsi
Tulsi, also known as Holy Basil, is praised by many for its healing properties, mostly due to the hundreds of phytochemicals it contains, that together support health in a variety of ways, including helping the body adapt to stress, cleansing, and relieving congestion, just to name a few.
Tulsi can be applied in a compress to treat headaches caused by sinuses, colds and even migraines.
Supplies Needed to Make a Tulsi Compress for Headaches
To make a compress you'll need: Tulsi, in dry leaf, tea, powder, or essential oil form and a watercloth.
The compress is basically a cloth soaked in an herb infusion. You can use whatever form of tulsi you can find to make a compress.
Use Tea Bags to Make a Tulsi Compress for Headaches
Start with making a decoction or strong tea. Boil water and let a couple of tea bags steep for 15 minutes. Let it cool. If you want it even cooler, you can put it in the fridge for a little while. Then soak a cloth in the tea, wring it out, and place it on the forehead.
Use Essential Oil to Make a Tulsi Compress for Headaches
Another method is to soak a washcloth in cold water, then add a few drops of the tulsi essential oil to the cloth and place it on the head. Essential oil is potent and should never be applied directly to the skin without some kind of dilution.
